How do you approach a brand-new year? Do you have a “new year, new me” approach or are you, like me, against new year’s resolutions? It can be both an exciting and daunting time with many hopes and aspirations pinned on the next 365 days that lie ahead!

Personally, I think the best way to kick start a great year is to firstly take stock of the last. What did you achieve last year, what went well and what didn’t go so well? What can you learn and take with you into 2018? This can be done in both a personal and business sense. Secondly, try not to set yourself such extravagant goals that you aren’t likely to achieve and instead, focus on day to day or week to week tasks that can be ticked off and done well. This way, you will see a steady succession of achievements that will build your confidence and lay the groundwork for a fantastic year ahead. “To do” lists can also be helpful, and these can be comprised of short-term goals that may lead to an overall long-term and bigger achievement that you wish to reach.

If your new year goals include progressing your career this January, perhaps start by reviewing your current position; what do you enjoy about your job, what do you dislike, what would you like to gain from a new job? This way you will be able to clearly define your aims and narrow your search for only the most suitable positions. At Outstaff, we can help you put a tick next to your first goal by simply talking about your options if you’re unsure. We can tailor your CV to your chosen career path, identify opportunities that align, and support you throughout the interview process. You could be achieving your long-term goal of a new job in a matter of weeks and looking to the year ahead.
